“Union, Justice, Confidence”. Bossier City, Louisiana is another major metropolis in the state. The 2013 estimated census put the population just over 66,000 residents. The city is nudged into the eastern bank of the Red River. Shreveport is just opposite of the bank from Bossier City. Bossier City is the middleman of the region known as Ark-La-Tex.
Reaching back into the 1830’s, Bossier was a plantation called Elysian Grove. James Cane and his wife Mary D.C. Cane were the owners. Originally, the area was a trading post across the river, which was known as Caddio Indian Land. This plantation’s loading and unloading dock later was known as Cane’s Landing. The land got its name honoring Pierre Evariste John Baptiste Bossier, whom was a general in the Creole Army. He was considered one of the first settlers in the area. During Civil War times, Cane’s Landing served as a host for Confederate soldiers. The plantation was fortified to protect Shreveport.
For a 40-year stretch, 1930-1970 roughly, Bossier was both regionally and nationally known for entertainment. The district was called the Bossier Strip, which took U.S. Highway 80 and made its way through the city. Ever been to Vegas? For quite some time this strip was well known for having entertainment opportunities just like that of the city that never sleeps. Another main attraction is the old home of the Shreveport Battle Wings arena football team. The CenturyLink Center hosts top performances. Rodeos, ice shows, and even children’s entertainment are even hosted here too. No matter what time of year it is, the CenturyLink Center may have entertainment you want to see.
In addition, no matter what time of year it is, MedPro Disposal seeks to offer top-tier disposal to the healthcare facilities of Bossier City. For a required service, we know the measures to take to keep your practice safe and compliant. With the many diseases and viruses that are present in today’s world, medical waste piles up. The process of disposal is likely unknown.
Classifying medical waste is essential before disposal procedures are even carried out. So, what exactly is medical waste? We hear this question more than you might think. Biohazard medical waste is defined as very simple, and an example will do best. Let’s say surgical gloves, for example, are used on a patient. Once these gloves have gotten their use, it is required as well as essential that they find their way in a biohazard medical waste bin immediately following their use. In addition to these surgical gloves, gauze pads, bandages, needles, they all make up biohazardous waste. In 2011, the CDC released a statistic highlighting the amount of individuals in America that were running into infection as a result of improper handling and disposal of these wastes. 17 million people were infected, eventually leading to 99,000 of them experiencing death. This was all a result of the lack of procedures in place, as well as the lack of education. Safety is the first step.
Safety should be at the top of the list for every practice. With medical waste, there is plenty of room for error. This is where OSHA Compliance training, offered by MedPro, comes in handy. OSHA compliance not only will teach your faculty the do’s and don’ts, but will certify them to handle your medical waste. The online portal is easily accessible and convenient for healthcare professionals. Time is of the essence, we understand. This is why the feature of saving your progression is essential to the portal. At any time can you come back and pick up where you left off. We also have many other services that we can provide your facility with.
The Sharps Disposal program is another frequently asked for service. Defined simply as any biohazardous material that can puncture skin and also is contaminated with bodily fluids, sharps disposal is top-notch when it comes to safety. If you are a clinic that generates contaminated needles and syringes, you are required by law to dispose of these items properly. In order to be up to OSHA standards, you must have a proper puncture-proof container, care from the medical community, proper training, and a licensed removal company. We are that licensed removal company, and we can save you money. We don’t stop there…
We want your expired medications. MedPro excels in the disposal of medical waste, so instead of hurting our environment, think before you flush those pills down the toilet. Our Pharma program is top tier. Whether it is OTC/Rx, or controlled substances, we know what to do and how to do it correctly. Many years ago, experts started noticing that expired and unused medications were getting into our water supply. Once the medications were flushed away, the problem didn’t just disappear. These medications were hard to keep track of, and before you know it, it can end up in your water supply. With East Providence being as pristine and natural as it is, this could truly make negative changes if not done properly. Our Pharma program is the key to eradicating any problems that could happen.
With all said, at the end of the day we want to save our customers as much money as possible for a service that is required for every practice that generates this waste. The medical field will always be around, but the prices have shown continuous increases and don’t show any time soon that this will change. Our customers have all at one point been searching for a solution to their overspending, and we came to the rescue. Simple pricing, and quality service. Let us handle this one for you.

Bossier Little-Known Facts
During the Civil War, companies of Confederate soldiers left Cane’s Landing aboard steamboats for the distant battlefields. Mrs. Cane hosted hundreds of Confederate officers and troops who were heading off to war. Mrs. Cane’s plantation was fortified to protect Shreveport by three batteries, with Fort Kirby Smith in the center. The others were Batteries Price, and Walker & Ewell. Fort Smith stood near the now Bossier High School and protected the area from an eastern invasion. The Civil War hit Bossier Parish in 1861 and ended in Shreveport four years later, when the Trans-Mississippi Department surrendered.
