Fort Lauderdale, FL
Fort Lauderdale is named after a series of forts built by the United States during the Second Seminole War. The forts took their name from Major William Lauderdale (1782-1838), younger brother of Lieutenant Colonel James Lauderdale. William Lauderdale was the commander of the detachment of soldiers who built the first fort. However, development of the city did not begin until 50 years after the forts were abandoned at the end of the conflict.

Medical Waste Disposal Fort Lauderdale, FL
When you get sick in Fort Lauderdale, the Broward Health Medical Center and Holy Cross Hospital are there to take care of you and nurse you back to health. But who is there to take care of the medical waste created by this treatment? The answer is MedPro Disposal, and we are proud to offer our premier medical waste removal services to businesses and healthcare practices in the Fort Lauderdale area. When an item is used on a patient at a healthcare facility, it generally becomes classified as medical waste. This waste cannot go in the regular trash stream due to the increased risk of disease transmission and other environmental concerns.
Medical waste is classified as anything contaminated with blood or bodily fluids, or anything that has come in contact with those fluids. IV bags, gauze pads, soaked bandages and used sharps needles are just a few examples of this type of waste. After these items are used on a patient, it is essential that they are immediately disposed of in the designated medical waste container, in order to prevent the spread of blood-borne pathogens. These pathogens have the potential of causing infections and disease to an unprotected individual, which is a major health concern and one of the main reasons why medical waste is so highly regulated. According to the CDC, the contamination of sterile environments led to 17 million cases of infection in hospitals during 2011. MedPro Disposal is committed to working with our customers and partners to reduce this number and keep more individuals healthy.
Segregating medical waste from the normal trash stream has never been easier as a valued MedPro customer. Our clients receive a poster that is displayed above the medical waste container, clearly outlining and describing all the items that may go in the medical waste box and all the materials that are safe to throw in the regular trash. Dealing with your medical waste has never been easier!
While our main specialty is the safe and proper disposal of medical waste, MedPro also offers pharmaceutical disposal and OSHA compliance for facilities in the Fort Lauderdale area. Many residents still believe that flushing old or unused medications down the toilet is a sufficient method of disposal, and that is simply not the case. When pharmaceuticals enter the water stream, they affect wildlife in the area, which is a major geographic focus in the Fort Lauderdale area. MedPro Disposal offers a simple-to-use pharmaceutical disposal program that provides your facility with a 2.5 gallon bucket that old or unused medications can go into. Once that bucket becomes full, the included pre-paid shipping label is attached, and the bucket is sent off to our disposal facility. At this point, a brand new bucket is sent to your facility, ready to begin filling again. What makes this service unique and cost-effective, is that it is only a one-time fee, regardless of the amount of time it takes to fill. No more monthly charges for a service you may not be using.
Along with the previously listed services, another popular option that our customers in the Fort Lauderdale area utilize is our online OSHA compliance portal. This portal allows for an administrator to sign in and individually or group assign job-specific tests to all employees, ensuring each individual is OSHA compliant. When employees complete their testing, their certificates of completion are stored online in one central location, making it quick and easy to reference, should the need ever arise. The main economic benefit of using MedPro’s online portal is that it eliminates the need for an outside OSHA consultant to come in to your facility and manually train all the employees. As you can imagine, this takes time, and time not spent caring for patients is time and money lost. Our online portal is the most cost-efficient and robust method of ensuring all employees are OSHA compliant.
With medical costs consistently rising, any areas where money can be saved is very important to a business’s bottom line. MedPro Disposal’s Fort Lauderdale customers consistently see savings in the 20-40% range compared to their previous waste haulers. That’s money that can be better spent on new technology and care methods for patients.
