Virginia Medical and Biohazardous Waste Disposal

Virginia History

Home to George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and six other US presidents, Virginia is a state that is firmly rooted in United States history. In fact, the story of Virginia is firmly planted in the discovery of the western world. Jamestown, Va., is written into the history books as the first permanent English settlement in America, founded in 1607.

Virginia served as the backdrop to John Smith and Pocahontas’ story, the pivotal Battle of Yorktown during the Revolutionary War, and the Confederacy’s surrender of the Civil War.

Today, Virginia is home to the headquarters for the Nation’s Department of Defense, the Pentagon. It also houses the famed Marine Corps training center in Quantico, the CIA headquarters in Langley, and one of the most notable naval bases in the entire country in Norfolk. Virginia has also become the final resting place for many honorable political and military figures at one of the most sacred places in the entire nation, Arlington National Cemetery.

Just as Virginia became a landing ground for pilgrims in the 17th century, it’s now a sort of pilgrimage site for Americans seeking to learn more about the country’s roots.

Historic Jamestowne calls visitors to come board replicas of the ships that carried over the first English settlers, and discover what it was like to re-establish life in the new world. Here, tourists learn about the Englishmen’s interactions with the Natives, how settlers were surviving in a new land and what events were happening that eventually lead up to the Revolutionary War more than 100 years later.

Colonial Williamsburg allows tourists to learn about work and domestic life during the Revolutionary war, and experience what it was like when soldiers prepared to march to Yorktown, or when townspeople first received news of the Declaration of Independence.

The historical towns are preserved and reconstructed to reflect the homes, buildings and public spaces as they would have appeared centuries ago. Actors dress in the clothing of the time and immerse modern day visitors in a living history of early America.

All across the state are memorials, monuments and museums that honor those who served and chronicle the historical events that contributed to making the United States what it is today. People can visit George Washington’s Mount Vernon mansion or Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello estate. No matter where someone turns in Virginia, there is something to see and learn that ties back to this nation’s rich history.

Virginia Industry

Once dominated by tobacco farms, Virginia’s economy still relies heavily on farming and agriculture. In addition to tobacco, Virginia fields are now full of cotton, peanuts, livestock and a variety of grains. More recently, Virginia has carved out a space in the wine industry, with a growing number of vineyards and wineries popping up across its country side. In total, there are more than 40,000 farms taking up a third of all of Virginia’s land area, according to a Newsmax report.

Virginia is also one of the biggest mining states, with more than 17,000 acres of mines that yield everything from stone and cement to gold and copper. The same report notes that Virginia has more than 200 aerospace companies including Raytheon, Boeing, and Lockheed Martin, among others. With more people employed in the technology industry than any other state, Virginia’s tech specialties are in nano- and biotechnology, with billions of dollars being generated in the manufacturing of computer chips.

Healthcare

Virginia has a lot of people to take care. It’s the 12th most populous state with almost 8 million residents living within its borders, and its population is creeping up especially in urban areas. Compared to its other major employers, the healthcare sector employs a small slice of Virginia’s working class. That means there are a lot of people seeking out medical services and a limited number of people providing those services.

For those medical professionals, time is of the essence.

Medical Waste

As Virginia’s population continues going to work in the fields, mines and tech labs across the state, Virginia’s doctors, nurses, dentist and other healthcare staff are busy keeping them healthy.

Every time a patient has their teeth cleaned, an operation performed or a vaccine administered, medical waste is produced. When medical waste is produced, it has to be taken away by someone.

Medical waste disposal and biohazard waste disposal in Virginia is regulated by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. The Department outlines rules related to storing, treating and getting rid of all types of waste including bodily fluids, sharps and needles, blood, contaminated paper and plastic supplies, and even expired pharmaceuticals.

Not adhering to these rules can result in large penalties for the company, and detrimental results to the environment and the people who come into contact with the materials before they are disposed of.

MedPro Disposal

MedPro Disposal is the solution for getting rid of all that medical waste in a cost-effective, time-efficient, government-compliant way. The company’s experience in 44 states across the country is proof positive that their model is working.

All the busy medical professionals of Virginia have to do is make sure the items that fit into the medical waste category are tossed into one of MedPro Disposal’s containers. Then it’s out of sight out of mind. MedPro Disposal sends out a driver who picks up the containers and hauls off the waste. The company is committed to adhering to every last rule and regulation that the State of Virginia lays out.

In addition to caring about the environment, MedPro Disposal cares about its clients. In order to cater to each individual clinic, hospital, veterinarian office, dentist office and any other facility that may need their service, they work out a pickup schedule that works within the budget and time parameters of that specific client. A budget friendly, headache-free company dedicated to keeping its medical clients compliant with the law, that’s what sets MedPro Disposal apart from all of the medical waste disposal companies out there.
